Built for Ontario

Snow, ice and four hard seasons. A roof that cannot rust.

Ontario is lake-effect snow, freeze-thaw, wind and humid summers, sometimes in the same year. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each.

Snow

Light on the framing, built for the load

Interlock panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre depending on profile, a fraction of concrete tile. That leaves the structure's capacity for what an Ontario winter puts on it: snow. Smooth aluminum lets snow slide, so we plan snow guards over entries, walkways and the driveway at the quote.

Freeze-thaw

Nothing to crack, curl or soak up water

Years of freezing and thawing loosen asphalt granules and curl shingles; cedar takes on water that freezes in the grain. Aluminum absorbs nothing and cannot rust. It forms its own thin oxide layer, which re-forms if the surface is scratched.

Ice dams

We look at the attic, not just the roof

Ice dams form when heat escaping into the attic melts snow that refreezes at the cold eaves. No roof covering stops that on its own, and ice damming is excluded from the material warranty. At the estimate we look at insulation and ventilation with you and tell you what we see.

Wind

Locked on four sides

Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides, with no exposed fastener for a storm to work at. Wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.

Cool roof

Reflects the summer sun in every colour

Most Alunar® colours are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), which publishes each colour's solar reflectance (0.25 to 0.44 when new) and thermal emittance (0.83 to 0.86). Lighter and metallic colours reflect more. The Alunar® finish is warranted for 30 years.

Solar

The roof to put solar on

A solar array lasts 25 to 30 years. On an asphalt roof the panels often have to come off and go back on when the roof wears out underneath them. On an Interlock roof they come off at the end of their own life, not the roof's. Your solar installer confirms the framing and the mounting hardware.

What matters where you live

Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Markham and Durham: older homes, tight lots, condo and townhouse boards, and summers that cook an attic.

Hot, humid summers

Lighter colours reflect more of the summer sun; how much that saves depends on climate, colour, insulation and ventilation.

Condo and townhouse boards

One profile and colour across every unit, with the product documents and warranty terms a board asks for.

Character on an older house

The look of slate or cedar shake on a postwar bungalow or a century home, at a fraction of the weight.

Solar on a roof that outlasts it

Put the panels up once. The roof under them outlives the array.

8,261 roofs in Ontario. Here's where.

We install the Interlock® aluminum roofing system on Ontario homes, cottages and condo and townhouse complexes: interlocking panels locked on four sides with the fasteners out of the weather, made in Canada at the Interlock plant in Delta, BC, and installed by our own Ontario company from our office in Mississauga.

Completed Interlock® roofs by community, from our job book. Each community with three or more has its own page.

    Why this system, in Ontario

What an Ontario winter does to a roof. And what aluminum does about it.

    Asphalt in Ontario

Why Ontario roofs keep getting replaced

Freeze-thaw, summer heat and wind work on asphalt shingles every year: granules loosen, edges curl and tabs lift. An Interlock roof has no granules to lose and no tabs to lift, and its panels lock to each other on all four sides.

    Older homes

The look of slate or cedar, without the weight

Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles keep the look on a century home, a postwar bungalow or a cottage at roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, a fraction of concrete tile or natural slate.

    Snow

Snow that slides, where you want it to

Smooth aluminum lets snow slide rather than sit. We plan snow guards over entries, walkways, decks and the driveway at the quote, so it comes off where it should.

    One company

One installer, one set of warranties

We install every roof ourselves. The manufacturer's Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty and our 10 year labour warranty come with it, and our service team is in Ontario.

    Recycled

    Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

    Straight answers

What Ontario homeowners ask us first.

    All of our answers ↗

Who is Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd.?

We are the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Ontario, installing Interlock® roofs since 1998 from our office at 2800 Argentia Rd #5 in Mississauga. We install one roofing system, the Interlock® aluminum roof, made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC, and installed in Ontario by our own company. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, a Metal Roofing Alliance member and a GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner in 2025 and 2026.

What roof profiles can I choose from?

Five aluminum profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam), also available in solid copper. Slate is the profile we sell most, and Shake and Cedar Shingle are the usual choice when an owner wants to keep the look of a wood roof. Every profile needs a minimum 3/12 roof slope. We bring samples to the consultation so you can see each one against your house.

What is a Class A fire-rated roof assembly?

Class A is the highest fire classification for roof coverings under ASTM E108, and it rates a complete roof assembly rather than a covering alone; in Canada the matching standard is CAN/ULC-S107. The roof covering, underlayment and deck are tested together, which is why the same panel can carry different classifications on different assemblies. On our roofs, Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly: two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood, per ASTM E108. When a roofer says their roof is Class A, ask which assembly the rating applies to.

What warranties come with an Interlock roof in Ontario?

Two. The manufacturer, Interlock Roofing, gives the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty on the aluminum material and its factory finish. We, Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd., give a 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty on the workmanship of the installation. They are separate documents with separate terms, and you can read both in full before you buy.

How much does a metal roof cost in Ontario?

It depends on your roof, so we price each house after a free consultation instead of publishing a number. The biggest factors are roof area, pitch and complexity (valleys, dormers, skylights and chimneys), what is under the old roof, the profile you choose, and options such as the Class A Fire Rated Available assembly, snow guards or hidden gutters. Steep lots and hard-to-reach cottage sites change the logistics too. You get a fixed price in writing, and anything the deck needs goes into that quote, not into a change order later.

Which parts of Ontario do you install in?

We take work across southern, central and eastern Ontario: the GTA, including Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville and Markham, and Barrie; Kitchener and Guelph; Hamilton, Simcoe and Niagara Falls; London, Woodstock and Chatham; Muskoka, Gravenhurst and Huntsville; Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough; Kingston and Belleville; and Ottawa, Almonte and Cornwall. It is the same company and the same warranties everywhere. We don't regularly serve Northern Ontario, but we consider projects there case by case, so ask.

    Free, no obligation

    Let's plan your last roof.

A free consultation on Zoom (most homeowners choose it) or at your home: we go through profiles and colours with you, measure the roof, and give you a fixed price in writing. No pressure, and an honest date for the install.
